Israeli Precision Missiles Assassinate Top Hezbollah Official in Urban Beirut Apartment

The news of the assassination only mentions in passing that an apartment in the middle of a large urban building on a crowded street was struck by two “missiles”.

Tabatabai was born in 1968 in Beirut to a Lebanese mother and an Iranian father. He grew up in southern Lebanon and reportedly joined Hezbollah in the 1980s.

Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health said the Israeli attack also wounded 28 people.

Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA) reported that two missiles were fired at the apartment building on al-Arid Street in Haret Hreik, and significant damage was inflicted on cars and surrounding buildings.

Haytham Ali Tabtabai, chief of staff, was among five people killed in the attack, which came two days after Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun had called for negotiations. Israel last week hit a car in Lebanon’s Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp with a drone, allegedly killing mostly Palestinian children.
