German press reported that the Tesla wheel failed and fell off (a known design defect) and the airbag failed to deploy, and the hood didn’t release safely.
A Tesla overtaking a truck ripped open the right side of the vehicle, completely tearing off the wheel. The driver was taken to the hospital with injuries. Initial assessments showed that the Tesla’s airbag did not deploy. The Hohenstein-Ernstthal Fire Department responded with four emergency vehicles. The hood of the Tesla had to be pried open to cut the main power cable. Paramedics and emergency medical services also quickly arrived on the scene.
Sarah Alexander, 34, of Moncks Corner, was pronounced dead at the scene from sustained injuries, Coroner Darnell D. Hartwell says.
The coroner’s office was notified at 2:10 p.m. of a traffic fatality on Ranger Drive in Cross involving a 2021 Tesla, which Alexander was the sole occupant of.
Local NY news says four or five people narrowly made it to safety as their Tesla tried to kill them.

The crash occurred around 7:40 p.m., when the impact sent the red Tesla careening off the roadway and into the nearby pole, sparking an intense fire that quickly consumed the vehicle. All occupants managed to escape before the flames overtook the car.
A Long Island station says emergency responders credit a bystander for helping people escape the Tesla.
